President Mori declares first FSM Anti-Human Trafficking Day


FSMIS (January 21, 2014): Federate States of Micronesia President Manny Mori has declared January 22, 2014, to be the National Anti-Human Trafficking Day in the FSM to strengthen public awareness and education on Human Trafficking.

The FSM Department of Justice, with partnership from the International Office of Migration (IOM) in the FSM, has scheduled several events to take place on the day to mark its importance. Among these activities will be a discussion and information sharing session at the IOM Migration Resource Center in Kolonia for the State Governors and Members of the various Legislative Bodies throughout the Federation.

A poster contest among high schoolers and training on anti-human trafficking at the high schools in the FSM have been on-going with assistance from IOM staff. The poster contest winner from each State will be recognized in a ceremony that will take place in the afternoon at the Spanish Wall Park in Kolonia, marking the collective achievements in anti-human trafficking public education at present.

Additionally, an exhibition softball game at the Spanish Wall Softball Field will take place from around 1:30pm to 4:00pm between the Department of Justice, the IOM staff and a few other challengers.

This is the first time the FSM has marked a commemoration day for anti-human trafficking public education through a Declaration by the President.
